There’s hot, and then there’s Maria Luisa Gil. With thick, curly black hair, brown eyes and full lips, Cuban-born Maria has looks to spare – though back in the República, that wasn’t worth much. “Cuba is totally repressed,” says Maria, shaking her head. “If you’re sexy, you’re considered a whore. It’s impossible to make money as a model in Cuba.” Determined, Maria moved to Chicago – which just so happened to house Playboy’s central offices – and submitted her photos for consideration. “It was my dream to come to America,” she says. “When I saw my first Playboy on a visit to the US, it had the sexiest pictures I’d ever seen. I wanted to be a part of it – that’s why I’m here!” As our Miss June 1998, she’s certainly exercising her sexual freedom – if Playmates are iconic, we think it’s safe to say that fiery Maria reigns supreme. “My turn-ons are older men, salsa and merengue music, and eye contact,” she advises. “Back in Cuba, guys are jealous and possessive.
